Phil came on board early 2022 with the aspirations of competing in masters mens physique. Having had his previous prep be cancelled due to Covid you could certainly tell he had unfinished business going into his first ever season on stage.
From the outset you could tell Phil was invested into every single part of the journey. He communicated often, sent over countless training videos, took constructive feedback on board and always came back better. As a coach, when you get athletes that are as ‘on it’ as Phil is, it truly does make your job that much easier.
In his first competitive season he placed in the top three at every show, even grabbing a win in GBO. We went into a thought out and calculated off season, pushing his body weight up to new heights and with that, came new found levels of muscle mass. After a good 18 months away from the stage he decided to compete again in 2024.
Having been through the process he knew what to expect and prep ran as seamlessly as it did back in 2022. The highlight of our two years working together without a doubt came at PCA Naturals, where he took 3rd out of a line up of 14 guys! He also went onto win that season but it was certainly the toughest line up he ever faced.
Across the two years working together Phil collected:
2 x 1st
3 x 2nd
1 x 3rd
1 x 4th
Here is what Phil had to say about his journey:
“After signing up and competing in my first season with Vaughan back in 2022 I decided that I wanted to compete again in the future but focus on a successful off season first to come back even more competitive. Prior to my first prep with Vaughan, I had never worked with a coach before but felt that staying with him through the off season would help get me to where I wanted to be.
Vaughan explained how the off season would work in a post season call and we got straight to work. With Vaughan structuring and guiding me through every part of my off season we were able to push up further than I would have pushed myself but knowing that it was under control, and he would know when to pull back down.
After 18 months it was time to start prep again as we had set our sights on competing in the first ever PCA naturals comp. Due to bringing prep forward to compete at PCA we started prep heavier than planned, however knowing that Vaughan was in control I knew I was able to put my trust in him and would be ready come show time.
Having Vaughan come to your shows takes a lot of the stress out of show day and makes it a lot easier process along with being the loudest voice in the crowd.
Vaughans attention to detail with his clients leaves you able to fully focus on your prep knowing that it is all under control with him at the helm which really does alleviate a lot of the stress.
Having worked with Vaughan for 2 years has given me the confidence and structure to plan my own off season and hopefully return to competing in another couple of years and there will be no hesitation or second thoughts on who to call to handle my prep.
For anyone who is planning to compete I highly recommend contacting Prep Coach UK.”
